2013 Events

The following are the activities the Langley H.O.G.® Chapter.

LOH 2013 Summit

There were twelve Langley Chapter Ladies of Harley who attended the LOH Summit in Washington State in October 2013.  The ladies are hush hush about the actives, however from the pictures, dancing, laughing and water were observed.  Several large door prizes were also given away.  The pictures are below for you to see

Western Regional Rally

Many of the chapter members went to the Western Regional Rally in Kelowna on July 25th through July 28th, 2013. Many of us rode up on Thursday July 25th, through Princeton and other came through Merrit. You could not have asked for better weather. Kelowna sure turned up the heat with the humidex the temperature rose over 40º Celsius.

After checking in at the many hotels, many Chapter Members were are the Sandman Inn, we attended the meet and greet. Lots of familiar faces and a few new people brought the noise in the room to a loud roar. Some finger food were available and after some jovial banter, many turned in early.  The following morning the poker run commenced and different groups were lead south on Highway 97 into Penticton.  The Rally took us back onto Green Mountain Road and back onto Highway 3A.  The venture continued to Twin Lakes Road and White Lake Road and back into Okanagan Falls, where most stopped for lunch.  The run continued, on the east side of Skaha Lake and back to Penticton.  After a quick poker stop, we headed back to Kane’s Harley Davidson to check in.  The heat was really building up in Kelowna and the stop and go traffic didn’t help, but the cold beer, wine and spirits made for another evening chatting with friends.

The Saturday brought another hot day and many decided to tour the country side. Some stayed in town for the biker games and Ron S. also won the skills competition for the Chapter.  The heat and loss of concentration and perhaps another distraction resulted in his foot coming down. A good effort – Ron.

Several of the Chapter tried to beat the heat by heading up into the mountains and found relief in the mountain tops.  The evenings festivities continued at the Kelowna Curling Club, where 600 plus people came for dinner. It is quite a feat to feed that many people in such a short time. The entertainment was good if you were close to the main stage, but the Langley Chapter was located on the far side and didn’t get to hear the comedian.  The Blue Brother’s Two made an appearance and brought the house down.  It was like being in the movie… I did say like.  After the final draws, many of us were headed to the school buses and heading back to the hotel.  A few gathered for share details of the days adventures and then it was off to bed.  The morning resulted in many heading straight home via the 97C, Hope – Merritt highway.  Next’s years event will be July 3rd through 6th in Squamish, B.C.

Washington State Rally – Greg Huot

It was another great week for riding with members out enjoying the weather.
Some of us made it down to Oak Harbour for the Washington State Rally, which was a real blast. It started on Thursday July 19th 2013, evening with the parade of bikes.

Did you know that if you’re having a police escort for a parade in Washington State, helmets are optional! Well that was the first time I rode on the road without one so that was one of the highlights for me.

On Friday July 20th, 2013, they had 3-guided rides in the local area ranging from 78 miles to 111 miles. Following that there were the Biker games where Langley Chapter came within 4/10’s of a second of winning the final game. That evening the band Highway 9 entertained us. The lead guitar used 4 different guitars, one of them made out of a Harley gas tank. On Saturday the choices were a poker run or try one of the other guided rides. I went on the South Island Ride, which was quite entertaining. One thing I have to say is that they know how to keep the bikes moving in a large group, Friday’s ride had almost 80 bikes and Saturday was 53 and we were rarely separated. I don’t know what happened during the closing ceremonies on Saturday night because due to technical difficulties with my reservation I got kicked out of my Hotel room so I went home early.

All in all it was a good warm up to next weekend in Kelowna for the Western Regional Rally.

Summer Sizzle 2013

The tradition continues with the addition of a Karaoke night on the Friday. The hits just kept coming with all of the summer sizzle participants and pub patrons letting loose with the hits from years past and not so long ago. It was a fun event that help raised funds for JDRF- Type 1.

Bowling Night

During the winter and spring before the riding season starts, we have once a month an evening of fun planned. The night of bowling was fun as people get mixed and match and have to bowl according to a script. Have you thrown a ball while sitting on the floor or backwards through your legs.  From the smiles you can see that is it could clean. fun.

Karaoke Night April 2013

The karaoke night at the Red Baron Manor was a great success as Dwight and Theresa put on a great show.  There was a guest appearance from two of the Soggy Bottom Boys (Ifan and Terry) and they put on a good show.  They were only missing George Clooney.  The golden microphone awards were given out to Terry and Tom, Ifan received the golden star and record deals were given to Nancy and Juanita.

St Patrick’s Day

The Irish festivities started with several people putting on their best Irish for a meal.  Although we didn’t find a pot of the gold, we did find an over sized leprechaun.  We had good spirits and many laughs as we entertained ourselves.

2013 Spaghetti Dinner

The annual spaghetti dinner was held at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Walnut Grove, Langley B.C. on January 12, 2013.  60 places were the only reservations afforded to the group, so we filled three long groups of tables.  Some members were able to reconnect after the Christmas party and a few from the end of riding season.

The unique environment of the restaurant had a stain glass dome over part of the tables, so people sitting two tables away could hear the conversation.  Needless to say, a few practical jokes were played on the unsuspecting – sorry Gerry.

Greg T. won the 50/50 draw so the winnings covered the cost of dinner for him, his wife and son.  Our photos were taken by the Chapter Photographer Chris.

2013 Registration Day

On January 5th, 2013 from 10:00 pm to 1:00 pm, we hosted the Langley Chapter registration day. About 60 people registered for the chapter and all had the opportunity to purchase items from the H.O.G.® Store.  Registration will continue before and after the January General Meeting.  Be sure to have your National Membership updated.
